Norman Bel Geddes was not an underworld figure from the 1930's as this unfortunate picture from his biography might imply. He was instead, a highly respected theatrical and industrial designer of that era. The picture is likely one taken of him sitting in an automobile that he designed for General Motors and which was shown at a trade fair.
Just as a number of other creative people have done, he drew up his concept for a flying automobile. The picture is dated 1954 but there are no reports that he ever did any development work on the idea.
