The RocAtomic

A Fantasy Car from General Motors

This is the "RocAtomic" by General Motors, from the cover of the Sciences and Techniques For You" Magazine of 14 December 1947. "Powered by atomic energy this vehicle has no wheels and floats a few centimeters above the road". Likely this design was from the advertising and promotion department of either the magazine or General Motors. It is doubtful that there was ever any serious developmental work done on this one.

The information shown here is from the book by Patrick Gyger published in 2005 "Les Voitures Volantes: Souvenirs d'un Futur Reve". The title, when translated into English is - "Flying cars: Memories of a Dreamt Future". At the time the book was published it was available only in French at - www.ailleurs.ch/publi2_fr.htm The website has since been discontinued.
